Apparel

Apparel includes both garments that we wear (shirts, skirts, trousers, jackets, etc…) and accessories that we wear or carry (bags, shoes, hats, belts, wallets, etc…).

For centuries, clothing served solely as a means of protection from inclement weather. Later, the act of “dressing oneself” became a matter of hygiene. For the last several centuries, however, apparel has become a tool for personal expression. It is the first thing that we notice about a person and is surely what most influences our initial impressions. It has thus become one of the parts of our lives to which we pay the most attention, at times even to the extreme! In fact, the clothing industry is one of the most flourishing and active markets worldwide, and especially in Italy.

Apparel and accessories can be categorized as follows:

  • menswear
  • womenswear
  • children’s clothing

For each of these three categories there are an infinite number of subdivisions, including:

  • classic clothing
  • sportswear
  • undergarments
  • formal wear
  • career clothing

The clothing market is among the fastest evolving sectors. Collections are redesigned every season, thus allowing stylists and companies to constantly experiment with fabrics, forms and colours. At times, it’s easy to “lose” yourself in the thousands of possibilities available, which offer choices for any look or budget.

In today’s market, it’s possible to find products in any price range. The percentage of items imported from abroad is quite impressive, and it’s often not easy to distinguish between products that are made in Italy and those shipped from China. Though we try to evaluate, as well as we can, the materials used by carefully examining clothing labels, unfortunately, more and more often, certain fabrics and processing methods provoke allergic reactions in our bodies. Our clothing comes into direct contact with our skin so it’s important to pay close attention to these choices!
