Tourism, Travel and Holidays

Tourism, Travel and Holidays. Three words symbolizing what everyone needs and desires but also one of the most profitable economic sectors for many countries.
The pleasure of travelling to experience new places and cultures has roots reaching deep into our past.  Throughout history and literature there are plenty of stories detailing extremely lengthy and exhausting but fascinating travels. Though in the past, we travelled more often for “political” and economic reasons, than for pleasure.

Today, we travel for pleasure, for study, for health reasons, for job training, for business, for cultural and religious motives, to experience new cuisine, for sporting events, etc…
Tourism has thus become an important source of profit for many countries around the world and has allowed many to increase their income by taxing related services (including tourist taxes, airport and boat taxes, bus permits etc…) as well as via the proceeds of companies supplying related services (tourist companies, tour operators, hotels, airlines and boat companies, restaurants etc…).

The word tourism is normally associated with a holiday, and thus when we search for a hotel, holiday village or agritourism location, we are usually searching for a place to pass a few days of vacation and relaxation. There are numerous tourist facilities available, offering countless destinations and options for different budgets.

Some of the fields closely linked to tourism, include:
  • transportation
  • insurance
  • dining
  • guide services (for museums and natural parks)
  • tourist assistance (medical, legal) and security

The preferred tourist destinations for relaxation are definitely the seaside and the mountains.
Numerous countries around the world (including Italy) offer tourists the possibility of any vacation setting imaginable: at the seaside, in the mountains, by a lake, in the country, or in a city of art.

In the tourism, travel and holiday sectors, as in many other fields, the internet has recently become the most utilized tool for researching and booking a vacation. Imagine how much time you can save consulting the web instead of one or more travel agencies.

Finally, it should be noted that while in the past there were “set” periods when you could go on vacation, now people travel all year round and even for brief periods. For this reason, low cost vacations have become popular and, in particular, last minute offers have increased significantly.
